The Underground Art Show: Works Inspired by Banned Books

The Underground Art Show: Works Inspired by Banned Books

On this date, we challenge all ages to create a piece of art based off of a banned book for an open reception where all the art will be displayed, judged, and winners will receive a prize. Passive art-making stations will also be set up. Art submissions will be accepted September 1st through the 28th at all three branches. You will be asked to fill out a submission form when dropping off your piece. Click here to view the submission form.

Invite your friends and family to attend through our Facebook event page.

In honor of Banned Books Week, The Suffolk Public Library will have a week long focus titled, Banning Books Silencing Stories: Alt Rebels. This project will be aimed to educate the public about intellectual freedom and censorship issues during Banned Books Week (BBW). The  project is designed to get people thinking about how things would be if banning books was a normal everyday occurrence and libraries were forced to be radicals and bibliophiles; rebels. During BBW, SPL will explore and focus on banned books as seen through the lens of an alternative universe scenario where books are banned everywhere and ideas are dangerous and host an assortment of Banned Books awareness activities and programs for everyone to participate in throughout the week.

SPL events are free to attend and open to people of all abilities. If you or someone in your party will require accommodations in order to participate, please contact Angela at amartin@suffolkva.us. You do not need to be a library member in order to attend.
